Kush Clothing Caring for Our Environment
If you've read our story then you'll already be aware how much we like to be outdoors doing what makes us smile. In order for us to continue to enjoy our favourite things in life it is important to look after our planet. We at Kush Clothing do everything possible to reduce our impact on the environment as a company and individuals. We refuse to work with any materials that aren't Organic or environmentally friendly and we print exclusively with water-based inks that are much kinder to the environment. Luckily for us it just so happens that the best clothing is made from Organic cottons and bamboo fibres and the most durable inks are waterbased since they are abrasive and heat resistant (so won't melt and smudge your nice new t-shirt the first time you iron it). For more info on the materials we use check out the details below.
Bamboo: Better for you - Fabric made from Bamboo is incredibly soft, smooth and comfortable. It quickly absorbs and evapourates moisture; it is highly breathable and cool in hot weather and keeps you warmer in the cold. Bamboo is antibacterial, so it stays fresher and odour free for longer than regular cotton, it is more hygienic and healthier. Better for the environment - Bamboo is the most sustainable natural fabric. It is fast growing and requires no pesticides. The type of Bamboo we use in our t-shirts is called Moso and can grow up to 20 metres (60 feet) in just 45 - 60 days. What's more, it regenerates itself after harvesting and, as it grows in tropical areas with high-levels of natural rainfall, it needs no extra irrigation. |

Organic Cotton: Organic cotton is grown without the use of synthetic fertilisers, growth regulators, chemical pesticides, irrigation or genetic engineering. Organic cotton farmers do not use artificial pesticides or herbicides for pest control and instead of chemical fertilisers a variety of natural growth stimulators are used. Natural pest predators like birds, bees and ladybirds, as well as beneficial bugs and viruses, will be encouraged by the farmer to protect his crops from attack, and soil quality is maintained by crop rotation. Instead of chemically feeding the plants, the organic farmer will also apply nitrogen-rich manure and plant nitrogen-fixing cover crops. To get the best overall price, ordinary cotton is usually made up of a mixture of high and low grade cotton. This mixed cotton is usually of average quality. Organic cotton, on the other hand, must be traced from field to store and cannot be mixed with other cottons, so this means that it is better quality and wears and washes much better than ordinary cotton. Organic cotton is also much less likely to itch and irritate your skin, because the cotton has not been treated with any skin irritants like pesticides. |
